Hospice Care in Staten Island, NY
Verrazano is more than a nursing home. We are a compassionate, dedicated group of professionals who provide 24-hour care to residents who need assistance with medical, physical, cognitive, and emotional conditions. We are, after all, one large family in this intimate living space. As much as we wish to keep your loved ones happy and healthy, we are committed to helping patients through their final days with us and understand the emotional and physical stress the entire family must endure. Whether you have decided to bring your family member to us for around-the-clock hospice care or we have enjoyed having your loved one as a member of our family for some time, rest assured that the comfort of our residents, as well as their friends and family members, is our number-one priority.
What Is Hospice Care?
Hospice care is a comprehensive approach to keeping your loved one comfortable in the final days of his or her life. When a resident becomes seriously ill or has been given a terminal diagnosis, hospice offers a home-like, family-like solution to hospital support. The hospice team may include a doctor, nurses, social services stafff, therapists, counselors, and spiritual advisors. Hospice care includes the following methods of care:
- Assistance from caring volunteers
- Medical services
- Emotional and spiritual support according to the patient’s faith
- Support for family members
- Pain and symptom relief to keep your loved one comfortable
- Care or access to a care member 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Do I Need Hospice Care Services for My Loved One?
While we provide the care your loved one needs throughout their stay at Verrazano, during final days we cannot always provide him with the 24-hour care he or she needs and deserves. We divide our time equally between all residents, but in the last phase of life, a patient needs more attention. We believe that hospice care for your loved one will allow him to remain comfortable in their home at Verrazano, without having to go to a sterile, foreign hospital environment. Hospice feels natural. It will not disrupt the comfort of your family member, and your family and friends can feel at home when visiting.
How Do Hospice Care and Verrazano Work Together?
Your loved one will remain in Verrazano throughout hospice care. Hospice works collaboratively with our team, so your family member can continue to experience the consistent care he or she has come to know as a part of comfortable, daily care. Your loved one will not have to transition into a foreign experience during the end of life, but instead will see the same friendly faces and hear the familiar voices he or she has grown accustomed to in this family we call Verrazano Nursing Home.
